GMC Canyon Roof Mounted LED Light Bar

If you drive a GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado, you’ve likely noticed something frustrating. No one really makes a clean, vehicle-specific roof light bar kit for these trucks. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.

A friend of mine wanted a roof-mounted setup on his 2007 Canyon. So, we sourced the right parts and made it happen. The result? Clean, strong, and seriously bright.

 Parts You’ll Need

To replicate this setup, you’ll need:

• N-Fab Roof Mount Bracket

• 40–42″ LED Light Bar

We chose a 42″ flood beam light bar because it fits the roof width perfectly. Anything shorter leaves gaps. Anything longer looks crowded.

 The Light Bar We Used

We installed the Vision X XIL-801 flood beam LED light bar.

It measures 42 inches long and sits perfectly between the N-Fab brackets. In addition, the flood pattern works great for work sites and trail use.

We sourced everything from Headlight Revolution, which made the process simple.

 Installation Overview

This install requires real commitment. It’s not a clamp-on job.

Here’s what we did:

• Installed nut-certs into the roof

• Drilled a dedicated wiring hole through the roof

• Used stainless steel cap bolts for corrosion resistance

Because this is a roof mount, strength matters. Therefore, we used stainless hardware and locking fasteners.

Hardware Details

We used:

• Stainless steel cap bolts

• Nut-certs for threaded mounting points

• Sealed wiring pass-through

This setup holds the light bar securely, even at highway speeds.

 Wiring Considerations

We drilled a clean hole for the wiring and sealed it properly. Always use a rubber grommet and silicone sealant to prevent leaks. Otherwise, you risk water intrusion.

Additionally, route the wiring carefully along the windshield pillar and into the cab. Keep it clean and protected.

 Real-World Output

With just the single 42″ Vision X bar, the work area lit up like daylight. The flood pattern spread light wide and evenly. As a result, nighttime visibility improved dramatically.

For work trucks or trail builds, this setup makes a huge difference.

 Final Thoughts

This install requires drilling. So, measure twice and drill once.

While no vehicle-specific kit exists for older Canyon or Colorado trucks, this combination works extremely well. Moreover, the 42″ length looks proportionate to the roofline.
