Everything You Need to Know About the Brand-New Morimoto 4Banger LED Light Pods
Morimoto has done it again with the release of the all-new 4Banger LED Light Pods. Available in both HXB (Hybrid XB) and NCS (Nichia) configurations, these compact pods aim directly at competitors that rely on four-LED designs—hence the name 4Banger.
True to form, Morimoto focused on refinement rather than brute-force output. Instead of chasing raw power numbers, the 4Banger prioritizes beam control, usable intensity, and optical efficiency.
A Tale of Two 4Bangers
Morimoto offers the 4Banger in two performance tiers.
The 4Banger HXB sits at the top of the lineup. It uses an Osram HX Boost LED chip, delivering exceptional intensity and control. Its wide beam stands as the brightest wide pattern currently available, matching the Diode Dynamics SS3 Max. While the spotlight beam does not outpace the SS3 Max, the HXB excels where it matters most: wide, usable coverage.
The 4Banger NCS serves as the entry-level option but still delivers impressive performance. It uses a Nichia LED chip, placing its output squarely between the Diode SS3 Pro and the Diode Sport. For many users, this balance of performance and value makes the NCS a strong contender.
Both versions are available in white or yellow output. The NCS yellow option uses a phosphor-converted (PC) yellow LED chip, meaning the light generates yellow output at the source. This approach maintains higher intensity compared to filtering white light through a yellow lens.
Three Purpose-Built Beam Patterns
Morimoto offers the 4Banger in three distinct beam patterns, each designed for a specific use case.
-
Spot Beam: Delivers a tight, focused hotspot for high-speed and long-range visibility. This pattern pairs well with A-pillar or auxiliary mounting.
-
Driving / Combo Beam: Blends distance and width, making it ideal as a supplemental high beam.
-
Wide Beam: Designed for fog light applications, this pattern provides controlled width and excellent foreground illumination. The HXB Wide outperforms current industry benchmarks in usable intensity, even when competitors offer slightly more spread.
All 4Banger pods use Total Internal Reflection (TIR) optics, which maximize efficiency and beam precision. Unlike reflector-based designs still used by many brands, TIR optics deliver cleaner patterns with less wasted light.
Built for Versatility
Morimoto designed the 4Banger system with integration in mind. A wide range of vehicle-specific A-pillar and fog light brackets ensures clean fitment without awkward spacing or alignment issues.
Despite their compact size, the pods remain fully adjustable after installation. This flexibility allows you to fine-tune aim for road or off-road use. Combined with their distinctive design, the 4Bangers offer both performance and visual impact.
The Morimoto 4Banger LED Light Pods bring thoughtful engineering, refined optics, and real-world usability to the pod light market. As more hands-on testing rolls out, we’ll continue to dive deeper into their performance. Until then, let us know what you think of Morimoto’s latest addition.
